Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued Document No. 303 [2026] of the Original Letter from the Department of Industry and Information Technology, announcing the list of winning projects for the innovation tasks of key fine chemical products. Among the numerous evaluated fine chemical products, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) stood out as the only selected bio-based product across all categories. Tangneng Technology successfully qualified and became the national-level research entity for the HMF-specific direction under this initiative.
As a core intermediate in biomass conversion, HMF serves as a key raw material for supporting the green and low-carbon transformation of the chemical industry and achieving the dual-carbon goals. Leveraging its self-developed full set of industrialization technologies, Sugar Energy Technology undertakes national-level technical research tasks. The company's first phase of the Daishan 12,000-ton annual HMF production base is scheduled to commence operations in the third quarter of 2026, significantly enhancing domestic HMF self-supply capacity.

In accordance with the directives from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, enterprises will intensify efforts over the next three years to tackle key technical challenges in the industry. Supported by multiple policy measures, including national investment and financing, local resource allocation, and incentives for technology commercialization, they will accelerate the industrialization of technological achievements, facilitating the domestic fine chemical industry chain's self-reliance, controllability, and green transformation.
